The fact that my mother Patricia Cowhie-Ryan is an Irish Dancing Teacher made it impossible for any member of my Family growing up not to Dance. I went one step further than my siblings and joined the School as a TCRG in 1985.

Through a lot of hard work and complete dedication we went on to have major successes in the school winning numerous Regional, National Titles and culminating in a total of 13 World Solo titles. Many of these dancers went on to take starring roles in all of the Major shows.

Hailing from Belfast I have been teaching Irish Dancing to children of all ages for the past 15 years. My personal achievement is successfully bringing dancers from grades to world dancing standard at both individualand team competition level – having done so myself in my own dancing career. As an accomplished adjudicator I have judged local, regional and international competitions across Ireland, England, Scotland, America and Canada.

I guess I owe my great skill and passion for dancing firstly to my late mum, Mary, who introduced me to the Irish dancing arena and secondly to my teachers Maura Bennett and Kevin Armstrong. Maura, a great champion

I started dancing at the age of 4 when I went to collect my older sister from her dancing class. Though she didn’t stay at it for long, I found my real passion ! I think from the minute I heard the first 8 bars of music - I was hooked !

I think it was my parents attitude to dancing which made me the person I am today. My Mother, who to this day is at every feis with me, always made sure it was about the enjoyment and friendships we made. Thankfully the results were always good, but that was never the important side. I first qualified for the World Championships at the age of 8 (which is unusual in itself now) and never failed to do so until I retired at the age of 20,
